Abstract

The functioning of public transport in the Gdañsk–Gdynia–Sopot metropolitan
area is accompanied by challenges related to its funding, directions for spatial
development, coherence between residents’ transport preferences and actions, taken
by local authorities, environmental protection, including prospects for the implementation
of electromobility. At the end of the nineteen-early-twentieth century, the two
largest cities in this Metropolitan Area adopted transport policies that set out the strategic
objectives and actions in shaping transport in their area. Nearly twenty years
have passed since the adoption of documents by local authorities, it is worthwhile to
summarize the current activities in shaping to the individual and public transport
system, to assess and identify the challenges and recommended actions for balancing
mobility in the metropolitan area. This article was devoted to this issue.
